About Your Coach

My name is Ray Langenberg

Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing players improve, stay injury free and just keep loving the game. 

I'm an experienced Pickleball Australia Level 2 Accredited Coach and a Senn Delaney qualified Healthy High Performance Facilitator.

I coach Smart PickleballTM. , winning pickleball that's easy on your body and great for your mind.  I coach simple stroke mechanics, efficient movement, clear understanding of tactics,  purposeful practice and high performance mental habits. 

Coaching sessions are energetic, full of passion for the game and heaps of fun. I use the latest in coaching aids and techniques to speed up your progress.

Coaching Sessions & Clinics

Beginners, Towards Intermediate and Intermediate Coaching Sessions are held Monday mornings at Portsea, Wednesday mornings  at Somerville and Thursday mornings at Mornington. Coaching Sessions are also held at Sorrento , Rosebud and Shoreham. Clinics and Private Coaching can be held at most of these locations. 

Towards Intermediate Pickleball Coaching Sessions

Beginners Coaching 

  • Ideal for those who are new to the game.

  • Get the skills and understanding to enjoy playing social pickleball.

  • Three  one hour sessions are recommended.

  • If you have a group that want to learn and play the game together, contact Ray to organise a tailored event.
     

Family, Friends and Business Group Pickleball Coaching
Towards Intermediate 
  • For those who want to be more consistent and hit more effective shots.

  • Ideal for players who make quite a few unforced errors and often pop the ball up.

  • Learn how to put pressure on your opponents, rather than the other way around.

  • ​Attend regularly for consistent improvement

  • 45 minutes of coaching with just 4 participants 

Accelerator Pickleball Coaching Clinics

Intermediate 

  • For those who want to broaden their range of shots and know when to use them.

  • Ideal for players who have extended rallies but don't routinely get to the kitchen when they are the serving team.

  • Learn how to add spin, power and control your shots.

  • Learn how to play as a team.​

  • Attend regularly for consistent improvement.

  • 45 minutes of coaching with just 4 participants

Private Coaching

Private coaching is simply the fastest way to improve your game. it doesn't get better than 1 on 1 for 1 hour. Call or text Ray for location and time options.

Top Spin Clinic

Top spin is a game changer. Top spin will give you more precise and assertive shots that are tougher to return. Want to add topspin serves, drives, volleys and dinks to your game? We use game changing technology throughout the Clinic, the 'Spin Pro', so you can see and feel the spin as you learn each shot. Two hours of top spin coaching with just 4 participants.

Intermediate  Pickleball Coaching Sessions

Accelerator Clinic

If your time for regular coaching sessions is limited, this is the way to quickly acquire new skills and  understanding. Two hours of intensive coaching with just 4 participants. 

Private Group Coaching 

If you have a group of family or friends who want to learn and play the game together. Call or text Ray to organise a tailored event.

Simple Stroke Mechanics

Short simple shots with a clear start and end point make you a more consistent and versatile player. You can prepare early for the shot and be back to the ready position quickly. You don't need  to overly strain or twist your body. You can be balanced and play with a calm that allows you to see the whole game and make better decisions. 

Efficient Movement

Efficient movement means less dramatic movement, its easier on your body and gets you to the best position on the court. That means you can employ better tactics and hit more consistent shots.

 

Moving at the right time to the right spot, stopping before the other team hit the ball, being on the balls of your feet ready to hit the next shot, using your non-dominant arm to balance - these are the keys to efficient movement.

Clear Understanding of Tactics

Every point is an opportunity to utilise another tactic to get the better of the other team.  Build your repertoire and you will win more points with less effort. 

Purposeful Practice 

When you practice your shots or plays, focus on one shot or situation at a time. Gather feedback to adjust and improve between repetitions. Feedback can come from your equipment (your paddle and the net), a device like the TopSpinPro or SpinPro, your knowledge base, video of your play, your partner or your coach. This Purposeful Practice approach of focus, feedback and repetition will speed up your improvement.

High Performance Mental Habits

Pickleball is heaps of fun and most of the time it's not hard to have a good time. But sometimes it only takes a few errant shots, a tricky line call or being soundly beaten by a better team, to throw us off our game. Keeping yourself and your partner up the mood elevator takes practice, effort and skill. The pay-offs are big, full court perspective, more creativity in your tactical choices and shot making, increased consistency and an ability to play one point at a time regardless of the score.
